FAQ

Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions. If you have questions about anything not listed here, feel free to contact WebActa at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Q. Does my business need a website?

A. If your business does not have a website, you are missing out on dedicated 24-hour exposure, 365 days a year to your targeted market. According to the Internet World Stats, there are 1,668,870,408 users on the internet. If your business does not have a web presence, you are missing out on a large number of potential customers. Times are changing, and the world is becoming more dependent on the web- having a website that supports your marketing efforts will enable you to keep up with your competition.

Q. How many pages do I need?

A. The amount of pages needed are heavily dependent upon the amount of content your business has, and the type of site you wish to have. If you have a large e-commerce website, you could have hundreds. If you have a smaller website aimed at simply providing informational content for your customers, you may only need 10 pages.

Q. With the emergence of website building software, why shouldn't I create my business website myself?

A. It is definitely easier now than ever to create your own website. The term "build it and they will come" no longer applies, however. Now, building a website is not as simple as a quick design, and $10 purchase of a domain name. Many factors have to be taken into account, from compliance with web standards, to usability considerations, to search engine optimization (SEO). If your website does not have sufficient SEO and marketing- simply putting it online will not make it stand out.

Q. I've heard of CMS platforms such as Joomla, and Drupal. What are they? Why should I be interested in them?

A. CMS, or Content Management Systems, is a collection of procedures used to manage workflow in a collaborative environment. In the "old days", a website was done completely out of notepad, or another text editor. This worked fine, and got OK results now and then. The problem started coming when companies started having more and more pages. With that method, if you wanted to change a link on one page, you had to go to every other page on your site, and modify that one link. We are talking about hours and hours of labor to complete one task. Enter CMS. CMS platforms take someone with expertise in CMS to design, and develop, but once developed, are very straightforward for a webmaster to maintain- or even someone not experienced in maintaining a website. The technology is fantastic in it's amazing flexibility, all-the-while maintaining ease of use for those not experienced with CMS. At WebActa we strongly suggest that clients look into CMS technologies for their individual websites, however we are not confined to doing just CMS sites. Examples of sites utilizing CMS sites are news sites, online shopping sites, or any other website that has a large of amount of dynamic content that can change often. The terms "Joomla" and "Drupal" refer to two of the top open-source CMS platforms.

Q. What is SEO, and what is the big deal about it?

A. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is an emerging field within the Web services industry. SEO is essentially the practice of adjusting content/formatting and even website code, to be more search engine friendly. For example, Google does not 'index' (or automatically track your site and link to it) images without a certain tag in the code, which is known as the ALT attribute. By adding this attribute (it is not enabled by default), images will still help to improve your search engine ranking. It should be noted that WebActa Solutions only employs the use of "white hat SEO". White hat SEO is the practice of using techniques which are within the search engines' guidelines and policies. Black hat SEO is the practice in which you use questionable techniques to improve your search ranking. WebActa does not do this. Black hat SEO can lead to your site being de-listed from the major search engines, and will not make a considerable difference in your ranking. Since your business is around to stay, we intend on making your web presence the same- which means adhering to standards and policies.

Q. How long does it take to develop a website?

A. The timeline for web development is very often dictated by the client, however there are several factors that affect the total time it takes to design, develop, and implement each site. These factors include custom graphics required, the number of pages to be created, and technologies used. A small business site with 10 pages and a mostly text-based layout will take much less time then a medium-sized e-commerce site with a full shopping cart, online payment system, etc. Once you submit a Request for Estimate, then we will respond with a proposal in the form of a PDF, which will list the project phases, and a timeline based on your individual needs.

Q. Will my company be able to assess the project before it is completed, to make sure we get the desired results?

A. Not only will your company be able to assess your website before it is finished, but our designers will provide e-mail updates along the way, and/or phone calls, if you prefer that method. In addition to this, no major changes will be finalized without prior approval from our clients. We absolutely want our clients involved in the development process!
